Curzon scorer Ryan Brooke on the ball
I'll be honest - it was NOT the tempter of the free bar after the game that took me to the Tameside Stadium yesterday - I didn't stay for it - and my plan was Ashton United v Frickley until I got home after work to find it had been called off !!
Got to the ground in good time ... to watch a scintillating first 45 minutes where Ashton simply blew away their fellow promotion contenders. The second half was quite an anti-climax - even so Curzon were in total control throughout. Pics from game at
Curzon Ashton 4 Ilkeston FC 0
This win certainly resurrects Curzon's promotion credentials - talking to some of my Ilson friends during/after the game, there seems to be a realisation that despite their elevated position in the table ... "They're struggling" ... not replacing players who have left (e.g. Che Adams) seems to be the 'grouse' ... still fourth mind (with games in hand) while Curzon remain seventh.
Strange how the fixtures fall - after not getting to Curzon since last October, it looks like Curzon next Saturday (v Stourbridge) and the Monday after (rearranged game v Belper Town). This midweek Mossley are at home on Tuesday night to Radcliffe Borough ... note Mossley's creditable 2-2 draw yesterday away at high-flying Spennymoor.
Finally a quick "well done" to Glossop North End who secured their place in the FA Vase Quarter-Final after an extra-time 3-1 win at Dunston UTS. The now travel to Shaw Lane Aquaforce next Saturday ...
